Fireworks are recognised to have first been developed by the Chinese as far back as the 12th century as a natural product of the invention of gunpowder. There original purpose was to ward off evil spirits by creating a loud bang and also as a source of good luck and fortune. It soon became a recognised profession with Chinese dedicating their careers to the creation of fireworks.

Today fireworks are used to celebrate many occasions such as religious events, festivals, special dates, births, marriages and cultural events. The firework itself is a small explosive device with the purpose of creating one or more effects of noise, smoke, light and floating materials such as confetti. The fireworks are usually classified as to where the explosion takes place, either as a ground or aerial display.

The actual makeup of the firework is quite simple with a cardboard tube containing the combustible material inside and a fuse in which to ignite it. Aerial fireworks also come in two forms, the first being one that has its own propulsion before the main explosive part of the device is ignited and the other where the firework is launched as a mortar.

Fireworks have become hugely popular around the world and are often seen as a highlight of any evening’s entertainment and individuals now spend many years learning the skills with pyrotechnics and developing new and more exciting displays to awe the public. Due to their dangerous nature organised firework displays can only be set up and controlled by licensed professionals.
