As the popularity of firework displays has grown over the years so has the spirit of competition between rival countries, professionals, and manufacturers. Today there are several worldwide held competitions that draw experts and the public from around the world to witness some stunning pyrotechnic displays. We have already mentioned the World Pyro Olympics but that is far from the only one. The Montreal Fireworks Festival held in Quebec, Canada begins in June and carries on till July with companies competing for Gold, Silver and Bronze Jupiter trophies. The shows are choreographed alongside musical sets and last approximately 30 minutes.
The Celebration of Light is also held annually in Canada typically on the last Wednesday and Saturday of July and is often cited as the largest musical fireworks display in the world.
Once again held in Canada is the Globalfest International Fireworks Competition every august since 2003 and hosts shows by many nations over a five night competition.
In the UK the Firework Champions is held with the four leading fireworks companies competing for audience votes.
Other worldwide displays include the Macau International Fireworks Display, the Fireworks Championship held in Sweden, the National Pyrotechnics Fair of Tultepec in Mexico and the Tarragona International Fireworks Display in Spain.
With all these professional and consumer displays it is clear to see that fireworks, and the bangs and flashes associated with them that wow the audience, are going to continue to feature at major events for a long time to come with ever increasing complexity for us all to enjoy!
